Back to blog
I find myself stumped with so many endless things to do that all I could think about was writing. I never was induced to writing long and emphatic entries into my blog. The new search engines that are available on the net scare me. I mean if a bloody website can tell where you are, what you're doing, what dressing you had on your salad, we're living in an obsessive world.
It brings to mind that idiot who posted that he was chucking a sickie on his facebook and one of his managers finding out about it. I have no doubt that he was probably in no capacity to make it to work but to stupidly disclose this to the rest of the world is a hard lesson to be learnt as he did. He is now ridiculed and the 'idiot face book guy'. Note to myself: Never say i'm chucking a sickie on facebook. The problem is that googlemaps is probably on my street taking photos on a 'sick' day.
What a crazy couple of days it has been. With the Melbourne Cup ( who the heck backs a 40:1 horse) and the US Presidential election, it has truly been a media frenzy. I remember speaking to some yankee friends. Their opinions were divided as much as they were expansive. Coming from relative neutrality to backing the underdog, I realised for the longest time that Barack was not the underdog. I think it was the convincing speeches that McCain spoke in which he demonstrated his inept capacity to lead the US. All his speeches prior to the actual election was ovewhelming conclusive that he was going to be the 44th President of the USA.
What was interesting was McCain's concession speech. I was mildly amused as I was expecting McCain's lack of stretch in his arms during his speech. Quite to the contrary, McCain's speech was very uplifting and one of the best concession speeches I have ever heard.

"I don't know – I don't know what more we could have done to try to win this election."
I am sure if he asked for suggestions, his inbox would fill in 1 day.
"We fought – we fought as hard as we could. And though we feel short, the failure is mine, not yours."
This marked for me a sign of humility and gratitude towards all the people who had supported him. A remarkable man who could have been the single handedly, the most powerful man in the world. His reputation supercedes his efforts in this election campaign. My hats off to a gracious loser. His last few lines empitimise his attitude. Not being an American, I felt a sense of errie loyalty to the Yanks.
So what lies next for Australia is possibly an Aboriginal Prime Minister. Got weird looks after saying that at work.
